Arthritis
It seems that paracetamol has been overlooked recently with the development of expensive drugs. Because paracetamol is so common, on our shelves and cheap, we tend not to believe that it can be as effective as things which are a bit more expensive and come in fancier packaging. Some doctors consider this to be unfortunate because in many cases standard paracetamol has less drastic side effects than arthritis treatment drugs geared towards severe arthritis. The more natural the treatment of your arthritis the better, and unless you are dealing with a case of rheumatoid arthritis, you should limit your intervention to lifestyle changes and pain relief as far as possible.
The most common form of arthritis, osteoarthritis, is also known as degenerative joint disease and occurs following trauma to the joint, following an infection of the joint or simply as a result of aging. Current arthritis treatment methods focus on relieving arthritis pain, reducing inflammation, stopping or slowing joint damage and improving your functioning and sense of well-being.
For osteoarthritis, just teaching people about their arthritis and their arthritis treatment options can be better than expensive drugs. Some studies have shown that strengthening muscles around aching joints through regular gentle exercise can also be helpful. 'Common arthritis' is a wear and tear condition, without much inflammation around, whilst rheumatoid arthritis is inflammatory and therefore may need a different treatment.
There are many different forms of arthritis, each of which has a different cause and requires a different arthritis treatment. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease in which the body is attacking itself in the joints. With rheumatoid arthritis, it is crucial that you get an early diagnosis and work with your doctor to find the best treatment for you so that you can live well with it and suffer as little arthritis pain as possible. Just a few years ago, your doctor might have only prescribed an over-the-counter pain reliever, like an analgesic or non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), until you experienced increased disease progression.
Now, with the improvement of available medications, doctors know that they have to be more aggressive early on in order to prevent severe joint malfunction and erosion. In order to get the proper treatment for rheumatoid arthritis, you need to make sure you have the proper health-care team. Your primary doctor for treating the arthritis should be a physician with special training in diseases of the bone, muscles and joints. Because rheumatoid arthritis presents itself on many different fronts and in many different ways, treatment must be tailored to the individual, taking into account the severity of your arthritis, other medical conditions you may have and your individual lifestyle.
