Relief from Arthritis Pain
Keeping the joints well oiled A joint, where two bones make contact, allows movement and provides mechanical support. People who suffer from arthritis experience anything from a mild to an excruciating pain in their joints. Some may even suffer from fever, breathlessness and allied symptoms. Today there are many treatment options from medication to physiotherapy, exercise and reduction of joint stress. Alternative medicine also offers a wide range of solutions for arthritis.
Where does the pain come from?
A person can keep the joints "well-oiled" and actually prevent arthritis to a great extent. Pain or the main symptom of arthritis is because of insufficient production of synovial fluid by the synovial membrane in the joint. (In case you are wondering what that is, the sound of the synovial fluid can be heard when the knuckles are "popped") This fluid literally oils the joint and its absence means that the bones rub against each other which as you can imagine, is very painful. Arthritis occurs because the synovium membrane can become irritated. In thickened conditions it causes rheumatoid arthritis . Excess synovial fluid from the inflamed synovium could stop nutrients from reaching the cartilage. The synovial cells may also use up the glucose and the tissues will, in this case, get no nutrition at all.
With less synovial fluid, organic and inorganic minerals in solution, like calcium, begin to collect in the joint. This can cause anything from mild arthritis to great pain and suffering. The pain could build up slowly over time or come on suddenly. It may affect one or more joints. This usually happens in the later years of life but it is never too late to sit up and start caring for your joints!
How to prevent or alleviate the symptoms of arthritic pain
Keeping the joints moving and felxible requires a healthy lifestyle including eating, sleeping and exercising well. One of major reasons for arthritis and the lessening of synovial fluid is incorrect diet - too much processed foods, alcohol and meat and very little raw vegetables and fruits. A deficiency of water also causes the lowering of the levels of the synovial fluid. Incorrect diet, lack of exercise, injuries and auto-immune diseases such as lupus could lower the levels of this essential fluid. Often corrective exercise such as swimming, yoga and muscle strengthening exercises could help keep the joints pain-free. However, the doctor should be consulted before any program is started as rapid increases in exercise can put additional strains on other systems of the body.
The right diet
Acne is a disorder of the sebaceous glands or the skin's oil glands. There are two types of acne: acne vulgaris and acne rosacea.
Diet can play an important role in keeping the joints fit. Calcium rich foods are important to prevent osteoporosis and other bone problems. Fruits rich in antioxidants, fish and foods rich in essential fatty acids such as Omega 3 can help in preventing or alleviating the pain of arthritis. Junk foods should be avoided, as they contain minimal nutrients and can cause obesity, which in turn can also lead to arthritis. Coffee, tea and alcohol should be reduced drastically. A small degree of awareness and care can help to prevent arthritis and let you lead a life free of arthritic pain and discomfort.
