Treatment of Blood Lymphoma one
Lymph begins as blood plasma that is lost from the circulatory system and leaks out into the surrounding tissues. This fluid is collected by the lymphatic system and returned to the circulatory system. Lymph nodes are a part of the lymphatic system. There are around 500 to 600 lymph nodes and these are found in the underarms, groin, neck, chest and abdomen. The spleen and tonsils are large lymphoid organs. These are filters which have lymphocytes that gather and destroy bacteria and viruses in the body.
There are several blood and lymphatic system diseases that affect the body. The most common is Lymphadenopathy. During an infection, these lymphocytes multiply and there is a swelling up of the lymph nodes. However, this happens as a sort of defense against bacteria and viruses and they go back to normal once the threat of attack is past.
Lymphoma, however, is a lot more serious as it refers to the malignant tumors of the lymph system. The nodes are connected by a network of vessels carrying lymph fluid or white blood cells which usually help in fighting disease. However cancer can also spread throughout the body through the lymph vessels.
The treatment of lymphoma depends on type, stage, and grade of disease. These distinctions are based upon how many sites are affected, whether these sites are above or below the diaphragm, whether the bone marrow has been involved, what type of cells are affects (T/B cells). The treatment of lymphoma usually involves a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and/or bone marrow transplants. The cure rate varies greatly depending on the type of lymphoma and the progression of the disease
Is there any way to prevent lymphoma? Physicians suggest following an antioxidant-rich diet including plenty of Vitamin A, C and E which might prevent or even slow down the growth of cells that could be cancerous. Hawthorn, turmeric, bilberry and ginkgo are natural antioxidants.
As cancer spreads very rapidly through the lymphatic system in the body, research is underway find ways to track lymphoma progressing to other parts. A new technique using a host of miniscule magnetic particles that are introduced into the body and reveal lymph node metastases which are not visible otherwise has been developed. This is all done without surgery. So even in the case of malignancy, treatment of lymphoma can be started at an early stage for better results.
